Do I Need to Upgrade to Windows 11?
With Windows 10 reaching the end of support on 14 October 2025, many people are wondering if they need a new computer.
The answer is: not necessarily.
What happens when Windows 10 support ends?
Your computer won't suddenly stop working.
However, Microsoft will stop releasing regular security updates. Over time, this means your PC could become more vulnerable to viruses, scams, and newly discovered security issues if it's connected to the internet.
If your computer officially supports Windows 11
Upgrading is usually a good idea. You'll continue receiving security updates, and your computer should work as expected. We can help with this, or you can find our guide on it here.
If your computer doesn't support Windows 11
Microsoft's requirements for Windows 11 are stricter than those for previous versions of Windows. Many perfectly usable PCs are listed as "unsupported" because they lack features such as TPM 2.0 or a newer processor.
That doesn't always mean the computer is too slow.
In many cases, Windows 11 can still be installed using tools such as Flyby11/FlybyOOBE, which bypass certain Microsoft hardware checks.
Many people have successfully installed Windows 11 this way on older PCs, and we may be able to help you with this too.
There are some important caveats
Installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware is not officially supported by Microsoft.
This means:
Microsoft may not guarantee future updates.
Some hardware may have missing or limited driver support.
If something goes wrong, Microsoft support is unlikely to help. (Not that they are willing anyway)
Performance may not be as good on very old hardware.
For many everyday users, these issues never become a problem—but it's important to understand that there are no guarantees.
Should I buy a new computer?
Not always.
If your current PC:
Starts quickly
Browses the internet well
Plays videos smoothly
Does everything you need
Then it may be worth trying Windows 11 first before spending hundreds of pounds on a replacement.
If your computer is already slow, takes several minutes to start, or struggles with everyday tasks, putting that money towards a newer machine may be the better long-term choice, or you may have a failing hard drive; you can read more about this here, and if you have any questions, please get in touch.
